So today marks the day I began doing work on the second book in my Forsaken World Chronicles series. So far a prologue has been written in case readers don’t want to pick up A Monstrous Tomorrow. I have also written the first chapter, which is short and sweet and introduces a character I hope will be a fantastic antagonist for this novel.
As of yet I have no name for this next book. As much as I want to give it a title or fight against the general idea that books and characters create themselves for a writer, I believe this is going to be the case. Already I have several ideas in which this book can go, despite the outline I’ve drawn up. Due to this being the case, it feels almost as if I need to let the book just kind of flow naturally and now just follow important points I want to make in the first full length novel for the series.
One thing I find myself doing, and it may force me to stop on the manuscript before going any further, is trying to remember which characters are alive or dead from A Monstrous Tomorrow. While A Monstrous Tomorrow is very much a world building sequel, I want the survivors of that book to be alive and prevalent, which forces me to go back visit those darlings once again.
With my writing process as well, I find myself finding every edit to not be enough. If I were to take a guess, this is probably the case with most writers, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not aggravating to say the least. I want things to be perfected before I move on, but it’s difficult to find that perfection when every time the manuscript is re-read, a variation of new edits becomes available that I believe fit the story better.
I think at this point I need a program that just locks away the work that has been finished so I can’t tinker with it again.
Anyway, I believe that’s all I have for an update right now. My hope is still the same that if I can get a few chapters done and polished, I may be able to read one at my book signing. This would be a big IF and I will most likely only do it if I feel comfortable with the progress of the book. My hope is by continuously blogging about it, I can find some kind of push to get several chapters done in which I will be happy with and can share on this page. Until then, that is all.
Have a great day and good luck with this Monday! I know I’m struggling through it.
